DIY Pumpkin Artwork

Who’s ready to exercise their creative muscles?

Oh, good!

Then come take a look at my latest project.

I just completed three pieces of pumpkin artwork that I made while watching an eCourse by Amanda Hilburn at The Little Bluebird Gallery (I’ll put a link to it at the bottom of this post). By the way, this is not a paid or sponsored post. I just really enjoyed this course and wanted to pass it along. She is down to earth and very easy to follow along with.

This class includes three pumpkins with three different mediums and they were all so much fun to do! Plus you will end up with some cute fall time artwork to display.

The first one I painted was a palette knife pumpkin.

The entire piece was done with a palette knife…no brushes! I followed her instructions step by step and just loved painting this one. I really thought it was going to be difficult, but surprisingly, it wasn’t. It actually just felt really freeing to let the palette knife do what it wanted to do:) The piece is abstract which is good because working with a palette knife is not super precise…..

The second one I did was a mixed media pumpkin.

This one used scrapbook papers, paint, paper doilies, stencils, and stamps. The “canvas” I used for the mixed media pumpkin is actually a wood box sign that was on clearance at Michael’s. I watched the video all the way through and then started it over and created mine along with her. I did change a couple of things as I went and made the pumpkin artwork a little more “mine”, which is what art is all about….

The last pumpkin I painted was a watercolor.

We didn’t use actual watercolors for it, though. In the course, she used the same acrylic paints that she’d used in the previous artwork, just really watered down. For this one, I went a little more off the rails to make this artwork even a little more “mine”…..

I mounted the two on canvases (the palette knife and the watercolor pumpkins) with Command strips since they were light weight. I did use a small nail to hang the mixed media artwork that I used a wooden sign as the base for since it was a teensy bit heavier.

What do you think? Are you ready to paint?

If so, here’s the link to the eCourse from The Little Bluebird Gallery. And if pumpkins aren’t your thing, she also has other courses for sale.

Happy painting!

    1. Thanks for your compliment, Elaine! But I’m sorry that you haven’t been able to get your free lesson from the artist’s website. I know that she is usually very responsive to emails, so I’d send her a message. Also, I just realized that my link to her pumpkin course was not working, but it is now fixed. By the way, I’m not affiliated with Art by Amanda Hilburn in any way, I just really enjoyed her course and wanted to pass it along to my readers. Hope you get it worked out:)
