Fall Table in Cool Neutral Colors

Fall always means decorating in warm colors. Right?

Not so fast, red, yellow, and orange.

This year, I’m easing into fall decorating with cooler colors.

It’s been so warm where I live and the flowers are blooming and the grass is still green. The warm colors of fall just seem out of place right now.

This neutral fall table is all done in cooler, blues and whites…

It’s so hard for me to take a picture with the big window in the background. They always turn out a bit dark. So, I took another from the other angle, but it looks a bit busier because you can see into my other rooms.

This tablescape started with a linen tablecloth from Target (here’s a similar tablecloth).

Then I layered on a piece of an old quilt that I bought on eBay to act as a runner. You could also try looking for “cutter quilts” on Etsy. Here’s an Etsy shop that often has vintage quilt pieces…along with some other wonderful vintage finds!

Next up…the centerpiece.

My parents recently downsized and my mom gave me an urn that she had removed a bunch of dried flowers from. It was formerly green, but I painted it with a variety of blues and grays in several layers to get an aged look that is more my style.

Then I added ferns from Hobby Lobby and a Flat White Boer Pumpkin (yep, I had to look that up) from a local fall pumpkin and flower tent…

For some added height….

Tall white candlesticks give added height to the ends of the table. On a whim, I placed a metal crown on top of each candlestick. White candles would also be lovely, but I really like the quirky look of those crowns!

On a side note, I bought three of these metal crowns at an estate sale several years ago. I recently tried to find them online and realized what a good deal I got on the them because they are pretty expensive! Let me know if you ever find them in a good price point:)

The fall table fillers….

I placed a few deer antlers and small white pumpkins down the center of the table. Some of the pumpkins and antlers are real and some are faux.

They’re pretty good fakes, though.

I have to pick them up to tell which is which.

Small olive branches from Hobby Lobby give a little extra color. To help cover up their plastic-y stems, I strategically placed a few tan and white flowers.

Some mercury glass candle holders (similar here and here) with votives round out the center of the table.

The place settings….

The place settings on this cool toned fall table are pretty simple. I used woven seagrass placemats from World Market, white plates from Kohl’s, blue striped napkins from World Market, and mismatched silverware that I’ve collected over the years from various estate sales. I bought the bee glasses a long time ago from Tuesday Morning.

I am planning to change the tablescape and use some traditional fall colors when we get closer to Thanksgiving. Later this week, it’s “supposed to” get cool and maybe stay cool, so perhaps I’ll be ready for those oranges and yellows then. But for now, the blues and whites on this neutral fall table are feeling perfect.

If it’s still warm where you live or if you live in a place where the seasonal changes are more subtle or if you just prefer cooler colors, why not try some fall décor in blues, greens, purples, or whites?

  1. Love the cool colors for fall! I wouldn’t have thought of that, but it looks great with the white pumpkins. The crowns on the candlesticks are super cute. I need to learn to think outside the box more. Thanks for sharing these ideas!
