A Navy Blue Valet Stand

I’ve been wanting to try the new Miss Mustard Seed milk paint color “Artissimo”, which is a dark blue that is close to navy but a little brighter. It’s a bit more of a “manly” color than the creams, grays, and soft blue-greens that I typically use but it’s nice to mix it up now and then. So, I remembered that I had this old valet stand that I’d been meaning to fix up for a long time (like literally 5 years!) Here’s how it came out……

Of course, it started out looking like this…..

The first thing I did was to paint the whole thing in Artissimo. It took 2 coats to get good coverage. Then it got a light sanding just to highlight a few of the edges. And to darken it up, I gave it a coat of Miss Mustard Seed Antiquing Wax.

The valet had a wicker-type base that was in really bad shape. So I took that off and replaced it with black-stripe upholstery webbing. It’s simply stapled to the underside of the top rungs where the original wicker was and then woven over and under. It’s not intended to be a seat, but a place to put your shoes or bag.

Now that the valet has had its make-over, it’s ready for a sharp-dressed man!

This valet will be for sale in my new space at a local antique mall. I’ll be moving in this week and will post the specifics soon!

  1. It turned out great! Good luck with your new booth. Now lots of people will be able to see (and buy) your work.

  2. I have a valet almost like this only the seat part is solid. I was going to remove the valet part and just reupholster the bench, but I kind of like it now that I see yours! And thank you for helping to make week one of our Get Your DIY on Fall Party Challenge, a success! Next week’s theme is Fall Wreaths, I hope we see you again! 🙂
