Asymmetrical Fall Wreath

It’s been a very hot September around here and it’s felt more like summer than fall. But I decided to go ahead and start decorating for fall anyways and just try to will fall to begin. I started my decorating at the front door with a new wreath.

I started with a basic grapevine wreath that I lightly sprayed with off-white spray paint. Just enough to give it a whitewashed effect.

Then, I dusted it with bronze mica powder with a dry brush. Mica powder is light and “powdery” and gives things a light shimmer as opposed to glitter which is courser and much shinier. I use Faux Effects mica powder, but there are also others that you can buy online. It’s hard to see the mica in the photo, but trust me, it’s there! It just toned down the off-white paint a little and gave it some pretty shimmer.

Then, I added a few silk flower stems that I purchased at Michael’s. I used one large green mum and some white and orange peonies. I also added one longer stem with yellow flowers and a long “twiggy” stem. I like the look of an asymmetrical wreath, so I clustered the flowers to one side.

My usual wreath hanger was too short, so I swapped it out for a length of burlap wired ribbon. I simply knotted the ribbon and then hung it on a 3M hook that I placed upside down on the other side of the door.

It’s actually much cooler today, so maybe Fall is here after all!
